What we can do
We can remove hypodermic needles, syringes or broken glass from all council-owned land.
Any needles or syringes found on educational premises (such as schools and nurseries) during working hours should be reported immediately to the premises directly, where staff on site are trained to deal with such items.
What we don’t do
We don't remove needles, syringes or broken glass from domestic properties generated by householder(s) medical conditions, such as diabetes. Alternative arrangement should be made through the local healthcare provider.
How you can help
We advise members of the public NOT to pick up syringes, unless it poses an immediate danger to you or another member of the public. If you decide it is necessary to pick up a syringe, ensure that you wear protective gloves so that you do not come into direct contact with it, and place the syringe, needle first into a bottle with a lid on.
