The Our Streets and Spaces Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out five guiding principles to inform and guide public space improvements in Poole. The overall aim is to create an environment that has better legibility, is safer and healthier to move about, is vibrant, functions well for all users and is greener and more sustainable in our changing climate. It is particularly important for strategic locations in the areas which will experience the greatest changes including the regeneration area and town centre, as well as major local centres.
This SPD supports all of the council’s top five priorities and particularly protecting and enhancing the built environment. In addition, it supports the Poole Core Strategy’s main objectives and key outcomes and the Site Specific Allocations and Development Management Policies Development Plan Document.
The SPD reflects current council values to work in a joined-up way with communities, partners and other service units. The SPD establishes a coordinated approach, across departments within the council, to deliver projects and work in partnership on a programme of improvements to enable resources to be used more efficiently and reducing duplication and overlap.
The consultation on the draft SPD ran from 19 December 2010 to 13 February 2011 with the responses received informing the final SPD which was adopted in July 2012.
