Young people will have the chance to experience life behind the stage curtain at one of the UK’s leading theatres with Lit Up!’s new Young Writers group.
The free group offers aspiring writers aged 14 and over, an opportunity to work with a professional writer from the creative industries to gain skills in a range of writing techniques including performance reviews, blogs, poetry and scripts for stage, radio and television.
Based at Lighthouse, Poole, young writers will be encouraged to generate a portfolio of material with a view towards publication, competition entries, and performance. There will also be opportunities to work towards arts awards, to contribute work for web and print and to experience life behind the stage curtain at one of the UK’s leading theatres. Complimentary tickets may also be available for certain productions.
Matt West, Lit Up! Project Manager, said: “The aim of the Young Writers is for young people to learn what it takes to make it as a writer and develop confidence, skills and a writing portfolio that can help with college and university applications as well gaining placements and employment within the creative writing sector.”
Councillor Mohan Iyengar, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Culture and Leisure, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of local young writers and to develop further their writing skill. I wish the participants every success”.
Sessions take place at Lighthouse, Poole, every Tuesday, 6.30pm-8.30pm. Participants should meet Young Writers lead facilitator, James Cole, at the ground floor cafe. This is funded and supported by Arts Council England and Borough of Poole’s Arts Service.
