Successful closure order obtained by Borough of Poole

Borough of Poole has successfully obtained a premises closure order against a flat at Nelson Court, Poole, under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The order was obtained on 2 November 2016 and prohibits anyone, including the tenant, from entering the property for a period of up to 3 months.

Borough of Poole and Poole Housing Partnership took action in partnership, following complaints from neighbours about anti-social behaviour which included loud noise, excessive numbers of visitors to the property and threatening behaviour.

The tenant was warned verbally and in writing by Poole Housing Partnership about persistent conduct in breach of tenancy, but things did not improve. The order now makes it a criminal offence for anyone, including the tenant to return to the property.

Cllr Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, Borough of Poole, said: "Fortunately, in Poole, we don't often see anti-social behaviour on this scale. Thankfully we have these powers that enable us to take action as a last resort and we are pleased to have achieved the full closure order with the support of other agencies including Dorset Police."

Su Spence, Chief Executive of Poole Housing Partnership, said: “Despite numerous attempts the tenant would not engage to resolve these issues, so it was important that quick and effective action was taken. This is the first time we have used the new absolute ground to evict a tenant and this action brings much needed relief for neighbouring residents, and enables us to bring issues to a resolution when no other action has been shown to work.”
