Referendum officially underway

Borough of Poole's Counting Officer has published the formal Notice of Referendum for the upcoming European Union Referendum. 

The Referendum is being held across the United Kingdom on 23 June 2016. Voters will be asked to decide on the question Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?

Paul Morris, Poole's Returning Officer is also Regional Counting Officer for the South West and Gibraltar. Today he published the formal Notice of Referendum and anyone wishing to vote has until midnight on Tuesday 7 June to register. Applications can be made online.

Polling stations will be open between 7am-10pm on Thursday 23 June, after which time votes will be counted across the country. 

Paul Morris, Regional Returning Officer for the South West and Gibraltar, said: “The 23 June promises to be an historic day and I would encourage anyone who has the right to vote to register and have their say. There are a number of high profile events taking place at the same time as the referendum, including Glastonbury festival and Euro 2016 football tournament so for anyone attending these I would remind them to register for either a postal vote or proxy vote to ensure they are still able to vote.”

The deadline for registering for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday the 8 June. To register for a proxy vote your application must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 15 June. These applications must be made by post to your local Electoral Registration Officer. Find out the address of your local area.

The Regional Count Centre for the South West and Gibraltar will be at the Civic Centre, Poole where the results from across the Region will be received and once the necessary calculations carried out the Results will be announced after 04:30hrs on Friday 24 June.
