A free running event for youngsters is proving to be a big success in Poole Park.
Poole Junior Parkrun was established in January 2016 and has rapidly grown to become one of the most successful Junior Parkrun events in the UK, attracting 200 children each week.
Funded by Borough of Poole, Junior Parkrun happens on Sunday mornings - a timed event across a 2km circuit for youngsters from 4 to 14 years old. It was established following the overwhelming success of the Adult Parkrun which happens on Saturday mornings, also in Poole Park and which now attracts 700 runners a week.
Borough of Poole has supported Junior Parkrun with £3,000 to cover running costs and promotion. The Borough has also provided free parking on Saturday morning for the adults event, and is grateful to the volunteers who give their time on both mornings to make the events a success.
Cllr Drew Mellor, Cabinet Portfolio Holder, Public Health, Borough of Poole, said: “We are proud to support Junior Parkrun and encourage young people to put down their gadgets, get outside and run. The event has only just been launched but the early support has been terrific. Many young people have taken part and feedback has been fantastic.”
Poole Junior Parkrun takes place every Sunday at 9.00am adjacent to the Ark Café in Poole Park. It is open to all, free and safe and easy to take part in. Participants’ times are recorded each week so that each person can gauge their progress.
Taking part is easy. Prior to your first run, register via the Poole Junior Parkrun website . Print off the barcode and take it with you to Poole Park ready for a 9.00am start on Sunday mornings.
