Initial plans to develop 58 apartments on the former Pilkington Tiles site in Hamworthy have been approved by councillors.
Members of Borough of Poole’s Planning Committee voted unanimously to grant Inland Homes Plc outline planning permission for a further phase of development, subject to conditions, at a meeting held on Thursday 19 May.
The site is part of the wider former Pilkington Tiles site (now known as Carters Quay). Three phases of construction are already underway on the site, with some homes completed and occupied. The new Starter Homes will be built to the east of the Port of Link Road, close to the boundary with Sydenhams Timber Yard.
The plans comprise two, four storey buildings accommodating 58 apartments as part of the Government’s Starter Home Initiative launched last week.
Cllr Peter Pawlowski, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Borough of Poole, said: “This starter home initiative is a first not only for Poole but for the country as a whole. More importantly, by tapping into this scheme, starter homes at a discount to market price will be provided to help first time buyers in Poole get on the housing ladder.”
Outline planning permission for the whole site was granted in December 2012.
