Major improvements to shopping centre car park moving on at a pace

Major improvements to the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s multi storey car park, costing £2.3 million, started in the summer and are progressing well.

The first phase of extensive repairs to the customer car park started in July and since then the top deck (Level J) has been re-waterproofed and resurfaced. In addition the main movement joints have been replaced as well as the replacement of the lights with new columns and LED lanterns.

Work is continuing on Level H with one movement joint already replaced and the floor stripped and prepped ready for waterproofing and resurfacing.

During this first phase of the work, costing £700,000, the top two decks of the car park have been temporarily closed to the public. Although the recent fire on the site caused a small amount of damage and delayed the works for a few days, it is anticipated that the car park will be back to full capacity before the end of November.

John Rice, Engineering Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “We are just over half way through this four month phase of the project and the works are on time and to budget. We have completed the significant works to the top deck and we are now concentrating on improvements to Level H. We would like to thank customers for their patience while these improvements are taking place. We are aiming to re-open the car park in time for the busy shopping period leading up to Christmas.”

During phase one of the works the recently refurbished roof top car parks Shoppers One and Two and remainder of the Dolphin multi storey car park will remain open for use and the Dolphin Shopping Centre will continue to be open for business.

The work to the multi storey car park is in phases. Once phase one is completed arrangements will be put in place for further extensive repairs and improvement within the car park to bring it up to the standard expected by customers.
