Local young people invited to ‘Your Future – Your Choice’

Young people across Bournemouth and Poole are invited to attend 'Your Future - Your Choice' on Thursday 6 October.

This free drop in information event hosted by Bournemouth and Poole’s 14–19 team will provide an impartial look at what opportunities are available in education, training and employment.

It is primarily aimed at 14 -19 year olds but is open to all ages, parents and carers as well as professionals who come in to contact with young people and may be giving advice and information on next education or career steps.

An array of education, training and employment opportunities will be showcased at Bournemouth’s Pavilion on Thursday 6 October with 70 stands and representatives from schools, colleges and employers on hand to provide impartial information and advice on options for young people after GCSEs.

Councillor Nicola Greene, Cabinet Member Education and Children’s Services, Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “It can be very daunting for young people of secondary school age who are thinking about their future careers. With such a vast range of further education, training and employment opportunities available in Bournemouth, the Your Future – Your Choice event aims to show young people that there are lots of different options at 16 from studying at sixth form to starting an apprenticeship or finding employment. I would encourage people to pop in and see the opportunities on offer.”

Councillor Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children, Families and Capital Projects, Borough of Poole, said: “For young people nowadays it can be very difficult to decide the best option for them once they complete Year 11. Continuing further education isn’t right for everyone and with a range of apprenticeships and employment opportunities there are a number of options available. The free Your Future – Your Choice event provides a great way for young people to find out more information about the options available to them on the next steps in their education or career.”

The event is open from 3pm until 7pm.
