Borough of Poole has teamed up with Two Saints to offer free right to rent checks.
The right to rent scheme came into effect on 1 February 2016. The scheme requires all Landlords, agents or householders renting out a property to make the necessary checks to ensure that prospective tenants have a right to rent in the UK.
Checks apply to all adults who will live in the property and checks should also be made for everyone over the age of 18 who will use the property as their only or main home, even if they are not named on the tenancy.
The free of charge service being offered will complete the right to rent checks on behalf of landlords and also visit prospective tenants. Two Saints will also ensure checks remain up to date and support the landlord to ensure the correct documents have been checked if they decide to carry out the checks themselves.
Cllr Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "Right to rent makes it a legal requirement for landlords to confirm that adults legally have the right to reside in the UK before they allow them to occupy their property. I'm pleased that we are able to work with Two Saints and I would encourage landlords to get in touch and take advantage of this free service that will help them with this process."
Two Saints can be contacted at their Poole office on 01202 633444.
Landlords should be aware that failure to make the correct checks could result in a penalty of up to £3,000.
