Voting opens tomorrow for a Referendum on Poole Quays Forum Neighbourhood Plan

Eligible local residents are being encouraged to vote in a Referendum on Poole’s first Neighbourhood Plan tomorrow, Thursday 2 February.

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm. There are three polling stations – Hamworthy Library in Blandford Road, St James’ Church in Church Street and Skinner Street United Reformed Church in Skinner Street. Residents who have lost their poll card or cannot remember their polling station can ring Electoral Services on 01202 633097.

The votes will be counted at the Civic Centre from 10am on Friday 3 February 2017 and the Result will be announced later that day.

Voters will be asked to decide on the question ‘Do you want the Borough of Poole to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Poole Quays Forum to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?'

Neighbourhood Plans give local people the power to shape the area where they live or work and, if adopted, will form part of the statutory development plan for the area. This means it will need to be taken into account when planning applications in the plan area are considered.

The Poole Quays Forum Neighbourhood Plan is a community-led plan and aims to guide development, regeneration and conservation in parts of Poole Town and Lower Hamworthy in the future.

The neighbourhood area includes Poole Old Town, Poole Quay and Poole High Street south of the railway line. Hamworthy Local Centre is also within the plan area, as is the eastern part of Hamworthy including the Port of Poole and the regeneration area which includes the former power station site.

Paul Morris, Poole's Returning Officer, said: “It is important for residents living within the neighbourhood area to take part in the referendum as their votes will help shape the future of their local area.”
