There are plenty of pranks and a ton of fun waiting for young readers at Libraries across Bournemouth and Poole – it’s Mischief Makers, the Summer Reading Challenge 2018!
Bournemouth and Poole Libraries are pleased to announce the launch of this year's Summer Reading Challenge – Mischief Makers, produced by the Reading Agency and delivered by libraries across the UK.
This year’s theme celebrates the 80th anniversary Britain’s longest running comic magazine, The Beano.
Dennis, Gnasher and their friends are welcoming all young readers, aged 4-12, to set off on a hunt for Beanotown’s famous buried treasure throughout the summer holidays!
Cllr John Challinor, Cabinet portfolio holder for culture, Borough of Poole, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for children to enjoy a summer of exploring new worlds and taking fantastic adventures, all through the joy of the stories in your local library. I encourage children to take part, have fun and truly make the most of their summer.”
As library books are read, readers will have the opportunity to collect special stickers and explore the map of Beanotown to find clues.
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays. Children aged 4-12 can join in the fun from July 14th by signing up at their local library, then read six library books of their choice to complete the Challenge.
There is also a mini challenge for pre-school children aged 3 and under. There are exclusive stickers and the chance to collect rewards along the way, and it is always free to take part.
Cllr Pat Oakley, Cabinet portfolio holder for culture, Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “The Reading Agency’s Summer Reading Challenge is a great way of encouraging children to visit their local library and learn about the fantastic array of books and facilities on offer, for free. It is wonderful to see the Bournemouth and Poole libraries have so much on offer for everyone throughout the summer.”
A range of free family friendly activities will also take place across all Bournemouth and Poole libraries throughout the summer including art and craft sessions, game days and quizzes. A full list of events and activities can be found in the Bournemouth and Poole Libraries ‘What’s On’ guide.
