Seek out Santa while you browse, eat and shop locally

Independent businesses across Poole are preparing to celebrate ‘Small Business Saturday’ on 2 December through to 18 December 2017 with a ‘Seek out Santa’ Trail and prize draw competition plus offers and deals to encourage people to support their local small shops and brands in Poole Town Centre, Ashley Cross, Ashley Road and Broadstone.

With a fabulous Christmas hamper (by local business Interiors on the Green) up for grabs, shoppers and visitors can browse, eat and shop their way around the borough whilst collecting stickers from five participating shops for the opportunity to enter the prize draw!

Borough of Poole together with Poole BID (Poole Business Improvement District) are delighted to support Small Business Saturday, working with many small businesses across the area helping to boost the local economy with a campaign to encourage people to shop locally on the day and all year round.

Adrian Trevett, Economic Development Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “Small businesses are vital for the economy of Poole and account for over 95% of our companies. We should all do what we can to support them and this really means spend our money with them on Small Business Saturday!”

Les Robertson, BID Manager, Poole BID added: “Shopping locally is a way of supporting the people who live around you. By shopping, eating and drinking at a local small business, you are helping boost the local economy. Here at the Poole BID, Small Business Saturday and the festive activities around Christmas are a key part of our plans to create awareness of what’s on offer in Poole and encourage shoppers into the shops on the day and all year round.”

Paula Sturgess, Owner of Volcano, Poole Town Centre, commented: “Any initiative that raises awareness and supports small brands is a good thing. Volcano is looking forward to meeting the ‘Seek out Santa’ Trail finders.”

As one of the participating businesses in the ‘Seek out Santa’ Trail, Dan Wilkins, Owner of Shake N Bake, Broadstone said: "Here at Shake N Bake, we're a small family run business, so any opportunity we get to help other small businesses or to get more integrated into the community we try and jump at it. We're really happy to support Small Business Saturday."

Kate Buchan, Membership Secretary of Broadstone Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “Small businesses are vital to our community. They provide local jobs, access to unique products and a more personalised buying experience. One of the key aims of Broadstone Chamber is to bring more footfall into the high street and make people aware of what is available for them. The Small Business Saturday initiative helps us to do that by encouraging people to go into and explore shops they would normally just pass by.”

Visit the Poole BID website to download the ‘Seek out Santa’ Trail Leaflet or pick one up in your local Library, Poole Tourist Information Centre (within Poole Museum) or at one of the 20 participating stores. Good luck!
