Cllr Sean Gabriel has been elected as Poole’s 770th Mayor at this year’s annual meeting of the Council.
The traditional event, one of the highlights of Poole’s civic calendar, also saw the elections of Cllr Elaine Atkinson as Sheriff and Cllr Lindsay Wilson as Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Gabriel, who serves as a councillor for Canford Heath West, has chosen to support two projects for his mayoral year:
- The Poole Hospital Charity, raising money for the radiotherapy department
- Poole Forum, who are an advocacy service for people with learning difficulties
The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Gabriel, said: “It is a tremendous honour to chosen by my fellow councillors to be Mayor and it will be my privilege to represent the residents of our historic borough.
“I am really looking forward to representing the people of Poole by highlighting the great work of volunteers and charities, promoting business and supporting those who work in our public services. Poole is fantastic place to live, work and play and it is an absolute honour and privilege for me to represent it”
The Mayor’s duties include chairing all meetings of the Full Council, overseeing citizenship ceremonies for people becoming British citizens in Poole, and representing residents as their ambassador at the many functions he will attend in his mayoral year. As the Sheriff of Poole, Cllr Atkinson will support the Mayor with his civic duties and responsibilities.
