Major improvements to busy shopping centre car park ploughing ahead

Dolphin Centre car park

The second phase of extensive repairs to the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s multi storey car park, which started in May, is progressing well.

The first refurbished deck, Level F, has now reopened to the public with a further deck, Level A, reopening for public use next week.

Over the next three months all the internal decks will be refurbished providing an improved experience for users of the car park.

The works being carried out include:

•   concrete repairs to the ceilings, columns and floors
•   anti-carbonation paint being applied over the concrete surfaces to further protect the structures from deterioration
•   a new, enhanced low-energy lighting system will be installed
•   the exterior of the car park will be painted
•   the signage and line markings will be refreshed
•   colour coordinated protective deck coatings

The contractor can close an agreed number of spaces at any one time, with the remainder of the Dolphin Centre multi storey car park staying open for use by customers.

Access to the shops will be maintained throughout the works and the Dolphin Shopping Centre will continue to be open for business. The Shopmobility service will also continue as normal.

These improvement works follow on from a previous phase of works, costing £1.1 million, which saw the refurbishment of the top deck of the customer car park last year.

Julian McLaughlin, Head of Growth and Infrastructure, Borough of Poole, said: “The refurbishment of our car parks is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining Poole Town Centre’s infrastructure to support retailers and the economic growth of the town. A key priority is ensuring the continued regeneration of Poole. This work forms part of the significant regeneration investment planned in the town centre benefitting both residents and visitors to the area.”

John Grinnell, centre manager of the Dolphin Shopping Centre, added: “We’re happy to see any improvements to the car parking facility at the shopping centre and look forward to it completing soon.”
