Could you foster for Poole? Residents are invited to find the answer to this question and many more at an information evening to be held on Wednesday 11 October.

Taking place at Upton House from 7pm – 9pm, the evening will provide potential foster carers with everything they need to know about starting the journey to providing care for some of Poole’s most vulnerable children.

Staff will be on had to provide information about all types of fostering needed in Poole. As well as standard short and long term foster placements, carers are also needed to provide Supported Lodgings, which involves offering accommodation in a home environment for young people aged between 16 and 21. Borough of Poole is also looking for new recruits to the Shared Care programme, which provides regular short breaks for children who have physical or learning disabilities.

Cllr Mike White, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children, Young People and Capital Projects, Borough of Poole, said: “There are many myths out there about fostering, and people may have been put off in the past as they think they would not be accepted as a foster carer. In fact, we’re looking for foster carers from all types of backgrounds, and can provide support, training and mentoring to anyone looking to welcome a child into their home.

“I’d encourage anyone thinking about becoming a foster carer to come along to the information evening on 11 October to find out more.”

Foster carers can come from all types of backgrounds, and income, ethnicity, gender, age and working patterns are not usually barriers – and neither is having a disability or whether or not you own your own home. Carers can be individuals, couples and same sex couples in a stable relationship.
