Councillors of Borough of Poole voted unanimously, at full council on Tuesday 26 September, to offer formal contracts for the building and operating of a new 80-bed care home, Figbury Lodge.
The modern, spacious and energy-efficient Figbury Lodge care home will provide specialist nursing and dementia care, operated independently under a contract specifically aimed at helping Poole residents who are unable to fully fund their own care needs.
Stepnell Ltd, a building and civil engineering contractor, and Shaw healthcare, a health and social care provider, have each been awarded contracts for the construction and operating of the new Figbury Lodge Care Home.
Shaw healthcare have signed a ten year contract for the operation of the care home, creating over 100 new jobs and providing high quality care and accommodation.
The name Figbury Lodge is a tribute to the old landscape of Canford Heath, as depicted on an Ordinance Survey Map from 1811, and is named after two of the hills which use to occupy the area – Figbury Hill and Lodge Hill.
As well as providing specialist nursing and dementia care, the new care home will also offer a community hub, with facilities and services available to members of the wider community and the home’s residents.
Cllr Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Services, Borough of Poole, said: “Figbury Lodge will be a vital and rewarding asset for Poole, and will provide much needed care for vulnerable members of our community. I look forward to seeing work begin on the construction of Figbury Lodge, and seeing how it benefits the residents of Poole in the future.”
Construction will commence on the Mitchell Road site in November 2017, with the aim of accepting its first residents in summer 2019.
