This week has seen a record number of parks and green spaces collect a Green Flag Award.
It’s been revealed that 19 parks maintained by Bournemouth Borough Council and three by Borough of Poole have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme, as some of the very best in the world. The parks are among a record-breaking 1,883 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.
This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
Cllr Robert Lawton, Bournemouth Borough Council’s Housing and Communities Portfolio Holder said: “Our parks and green spaces are at the very heart of our communities and are so important to Bournemouth’s identity. With 19 awards across Bournemouth this is a reason to be immensely proud.
"Everyone involved plays a key role in achieving the high standards required to earn a Green Flag and I would like to say a huge thank you once again to everyone who has done their bit this year."
Muscliff Park is the newest addition for Bournemouth Borough Council to receive the much coveted Green Flag Award.
Cllr John Rampton, Borough of Poole’s Portfolio Holder for Environment said: “It’s fantastic news that we will once again be flying Green Flags in Poole Park, Hamworthy Park and Upton Country Park – it’s a real success story.
“It’s also a tribute to our dedicated staff, friends groups and volunteers who work tirelessly to make sure that the quality is maintained and our parks and gardens are a joy to visit all year round.”
International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating another record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award scheme, with more Green Flags awarded this year than last year.”
“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We are proud to have so many wonderful green spaces in the UK for people to enjoy, and hope that next year, we award even more flags.”
