Staying with friends or family

If it is an option for you to stay with family while you save up for a deposit or look for work then this may be the best option. While many adults want to move into private rented accommodation, the housing shortage in Poole and the cost of housing is high. This means it may be better to stay with parents or family where you are likely to have low accommodation costs until you are financially in a better position. Ideally, you want to have a regular income and some savings for a deposit and rent in advance.

If you are staying with family and they claim benefits to help with housing or Council Tax costs, it is important that they declare you are living there. Further information is available on Housing Benefit and Council Tax.

If you over 18 and without children, you can get advice and support from Pivotal who may be able to help resolve issues with your family or friends.

If you are pregnant or have children, you can get advice and support from the housing options team who may be able to assist.

If you are asked to leave, or cannot stay any longer, and you may be homeless, you should request a housing needs assessment, or explore your housing options.
