Severe weather emergency protocol (SWEP)

If the temperature drops to zero degrees or below for 3 consecutive nights or more we have a responsibility to offer emergency housing to people sleeping rough. This is to reduce the risk of death due to severe weather.

The provision consists of a number of bed spaces at the United Reform Church, Skinner Street, Poole.

On the day that the SWEP is activated, a team from the Bournemouth and Poole Rough Sleeper Team (BPRST) will alert the known rough sleepers in Poole and they will be asked to meet outside Skinner Street United Reform Church from 8.30pm if they would like to access the provision.

Support staff will be on site throughout the night and a hot meal will be provided.

Verified rough sleepers are able to access the shelter from 8.30pm.

Doors close at 10pm, there will be no access to the shelter for the evening after this time.

You can also contact our out of hours department on 0800 506050.

If you are going to be or are aware of anyone who is going to be sleeping rough then please refer them to the Bournemouth and Poole rough sleepers team on 01202 315962 or 0300 5000 914 (both 24 hour phone lines).

You can find out more by watching this short video about what our rough sleeper team do during SWEP.
