Council Tax and how it is spent

Overview

Council Tax is the tax you pay to help finance local services, for example, education, parks and social services. A full Council Tax bill assumes that there are 2 or more adults living in the property. Anyone living alone is entitled to a single person discount.

The amount of Council Tax you have to pay depends on which property band your home is in, however your final bill will be less if you qualify for Council Tax Support or other reductions.

Each year the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner uses funds raised from Council Tax to support their services. You can find more information on the Police and fire precepts page.
