Education for children and young people with medical needs policy

Education for children who are unable to attend school because of their health

Our aim is to ensure that all Poole pupils who cannot attend school because of health needs have fair and timely access to appropriate alternative provision for the duration of their need and can then enjoy a planned return to their registered school.

Our process is based upon the Department for Education’s guidance for local authorities.

Our pathway document includes some background information and guidance on this process and a flow chart to describe how this process works.

Schools who wish to request a medical tuition placement for one of their pupils will be required to complete our form.

Poole resident children and young people accessing their education while in hospital outside the Borough of Poole

Our Hospital Education Pathway outlines the process for accessing education while in hospital.

It is essential that we know about children who are receiving their education while in Hospital so that we can help their mainstream or special school to plan for their return.

The Hospital Education form should be used by Hospital Education Providers to tell us about Poole resident children receiving education while in their care.
