Coronavirus (COVID-19): change to service
Register offices have re-opened with new processes in place for appointments.
See further information about changes to services.
The registration will formally record the birth and allow certificates to be produced for legal purposes and to register with a doctor's surgery. Registration is by appointment only - the registration office will be able to advise you further.
When and where to register
You must register the birth of your baby within 42 days of the baby's birth. If your baby was born in Poole you should register the birth at Poole Register Office.
You can book by calling 01202 633744.
Register Office opening times:
- Monday to Thursday: 9am to 4.30pm
- Friday: 9am to 4pm
If your baby was born outside the Borough of Poole area, you can come to our offices and we'll send a declaration to the relevant office for you. This is subject to appointments being available.
Birth certificates
You can buy copies of the birth certificate when you register the birth. This is needed for things like passport applications, school admissions, and opening a bank account.
Fees from 16 February 2019
From 16 February 2019 there will be an increase in certificate fees:
- express service - £35
- all other certificates - £11
This increase is a statutory fee from central government and the registrar general.
You can pay by cash, debit or credit card.
