The Big Plan 2012 - 2017 The Bournemouth and Poole Health and Social Care Joint Commissioning Strategy for Adults with learning disabilities

The Big Plan 2012 - 2017 and Beyond is about how the Borough of Poole, Bournemouth Borough Council and NHS Bournemouth and Poole want to work together to provide health and social care services for adults with learning disabilities.

It has been developed in partnership with both local Learning Disability Partnership Boards and with the support of Bournemouth People First and Poole Forum.

The Big Plan has 12 Big Aims and identifies 14 Areas of Work to improve services for people with learning disabilities and their carers, of which the following 3 areas were seen by people with a learning disability as a priority:

  • Staying Healthy – Ensuring health care services are easy for people to use and the right services to meet peoples needs

  • Where People Live – Giving people more choice about where they live

  • Relationships – Supporting people to form new friendships and have better relationships.

The Big Plan has been produced as an easy read document and is accompanied by the ‘Big Plan - Work Plan’ for the next 3 years and a more detailed appendix report, entitled ‘The Big Plan – Extra Information’.

Work has started on a Pan Dorset Big Plan for 2017 and beyond. The Big Plan will be for Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole.
