Town Centre Access and Movement

(25 October to 6 December 2013)

Poole has some ambitious plans for regeneration across its central area.  These plans are set out in the Poole Bridge Regeneration Initiative: Planning and Urban Design Guidance for the Central Area of Poole Supplementary Planning Guidance published in 2004. This document has been successfully used to guide change over the last nine years and has helped deliver some significant projects including, the Twin Sails Bridge, the construction of Asda, new RNLI facilities and over 1,000 new homes on various sites across the Town Centre.

To maintain momentum regenerating Poole’s Town Centre and to align the document with recent changes to the planning system, the Council is in the process of updating the 2004 planning guidance. Some initial consultation took place last year which highlighted a number of issues with access into, and movement around the Town Centre area. To address these issues there is a need to consider how transport around the whole area should work in the future. This will involve using a transport model to test different options for improvements.

Views were sought on access and movement principles for the area along with opinions on some specific parts of the Town Centre through a consultation held over a six week period between Friday 25th October and Friday 6th December 2013.

The notes of an Access and Movement Workshop held on Wednesday 5th September 2013 can be viewed and downloaded from the 'downloads' panel to the right of this page.
