The Town Centre Heritage Character Statement

19 Dec 11- 13 Feb 12

The Town Centre Heritage Statements are comprised of: Part 1: The Background and History and Part 2: The Character Statement
and together form a Conservation Area Appraisal (CAA). The purpose of the CAA is to review the value of the historic, architectural and archaeological significance of the Old Town, Quay and High Street Conservation Areas and some peripheral streets, that form the historic core of Poole. It also takes in the two historic bridges (the railway bridge at the top of the High Street and the Lifting Bridge by the Quay).

The reports form the evidence base for the proposed boundary extensions. Four study areas have been identified and the council is consulting all property owners likely to be affected by the boundary extensions. The proposal is to extend the existing Conservation Areas and combine them into one Town Centre Conservation Area.

Comments on the extension to the Conservation Areas proposals was requested by 13th February 2012 to inform the final stage of the document.
