Revised Statement of Community Involvement

(25 October to 6 December 2013)

Planning policies shape Poole’s future and determine where we live, work, shop, spend our leisure time, how we travel around the Borough and what impact we have on the environment. Important decisions on how Poole will develop over the next 15 to 20 years have to be made and we want as many people as possible to be involved in this process. Similarly, it is important that local people are consulted on development proposals that affect their local area.

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how Planning and Regeneration Services will engage with individuals, local communities and other stakeholders on a range of planning matters and in particular, how we will;

  • involve and engage with the community and other stakeholders in the preparation of relevant Local Development Plan documents; and

  • consider and determine planning applications for development and how the community can be involved in this process.

Poole’s first SCI was adopted in February 2006. Since then, a number of changes in planning legislation have taken place. In addition, the Localism Act (2011), has introduced neighbourhood planning and a new ‘duty to cooperate’.

As a result of these changes, the SCI is being revised to ensure local communities, individuals and other interested stakeholders can be involved and engaged in local planning matters.

The consultation was held over a six week period commencing on Friday 25 October and closing on Friday 6 December 2013. The Revised SCI document could be viewed and downloaded from the Borough of Poole website at www.poole.gov.uk/statementofcommunityinvolvement.

Paper copies of the consultation material were also available to view at the reception of Planning and Regeneration Services at the Civic Centre and at all Poole libraries.

Representations could also be made online at http://poole-consult.objective.co.uk/portal or by email to planning@poole.gov.uk or by letter to Planning Policy and Implementation, Planning and Regeneration Services including Building Consultancy, Civic Centre, Poole, BH15 2RU.
