Draft Heritage Assets Supplementary Planning Document

(19 June - 1 August 2012)

Do you value your heritage?
Want to retain what makes Poole special?

After wide public consultation, Poole has now produced an updated list of locally important Heritage Assets including suggestions from local residents and investigating possible additions, Borough wide. Poole has also produced a draft Supplementary Planning Document for formal consultation and the proposed new list has been added as an appendix to this.

The previous List of Buildings of Local Importance was included as part of the Poole Local Plan First Alteration (Adopted March 2004) Appendix 1. Since then government guidance has changed to include a broader remit of Historic Assets and a requirement to include this within Local Development Framework.

The New Local Assets include:

  • Locally Listed Buildings and other features
  • Unscheduled Ancient Monuments
  • Known archaeological sites and areas of archaeological significance
  • Historic landscapes, landscape features
  • Locally significant Parks and gardens
  • Locally produced Artefacts (Pottery Plaques, Statues etc.)

Inclusion on a Local List does not affect planning rights; any permitted development rights or deemed consents remain unchanged.

In addition, the document has been expanded to give a comprehensive, holistic view of the Historic Environment in Poole, and what makes Poole special.

The SPD explains about Heritage Assets and how proposals affecting all Heritage Assets and their setting will be dealt with.

Consultation on this document will begin on the 19th June 2012, and run for a period of six weeks until the 1st August 2012.

The results of the consultation will be reported to committee prior to the document being taken forward for formal adoption by the Borough of Poole.
