About me

I moved to Broadstone in 1977 with my wife, Annette, and our two daughters. I taught at Queen Elizabeth’s School in Wimborne Minster until I retired in 1997.

In 1987 I started a small mineral and craft business which has developed into an international dealership, taking advantage of the internet. Throughout this time I also supported my wife’s political ambitions, and finally decided to stand for Council in 2003.

I have always been involved in the Broadstone community and as a councillor have been on the Broadstone Youth Centre management Board. In addition, I chair Broadstone Neighbourhood Forum which was established to develop a Neighbourhood Plan.

My interests focus on natural history including geology and ornithology, and I enjoy listening to the music of Mahler and Shostakovich.

My priorities

  • To successfully complete the Broadstone Neighbourhood Plan so that future development will be focused on the creation of a vibrant and sustainable community with a strong sense of place and thriving economic culture. Fundamental to this has to be effective public engagement.
  • To improve educational standards throughout Poole and promote opportunities for young people. There is a need to ensure effective training and skills development so that our young people are equipped for work and all the challenges of the 21st century.
  • To provide affordable housing – but noting the need to develop brown field sites first, and protect green field sites as far as possible. Quality of environment is a fundamental ingredient in ensuring the wellbeing of residents.
