Contract of Works
In August 2007 tenders for the works were invited and following a detailed assessment of quality and financial submissions, Carillion Construction Ltd were appointed as Principal Contractor for the works.
We obtained the necessary planning consents and listed building approval prior to appointing Carillion in January 2008. Carillion have subsequently made an application for land drainage to the Environment Agency consent for the temporary works required.
A summary of the main works proposed in the bid is as follows:
- Demolition of the existing cantilevered footway
- Repair of the damage due to the footway on the west elevation of the arches
- Extensive re pointing and masonry repairs
- An over slab constructed over the bridges to protect against water ingress and reduce loading on the arches
- A waterproofing membrane over the slab
- Construction of a new foot/cycleway bridge
- Repair of scour protection
