We give high priority to protect the safety of the community and the cleanliness of Poole and will remove burnt out and abandoned vehicles at the earliest opportunity.
Definition of an abandoned vehicle
The following characteristics are generally common to abandoned vehicles and one or a combination of the following could assist a local authority officer in making a decision on abandonment:
- No current vehicle keeper
- Untaxed
- Burned out
- Containing waste
- Stationary for a significant amount of time
- Vandalised/damaged e.g. Flat tyres, wheels removed or broken windows
Reporting an abandoned vehicle
If the vehicle meets one or a combination of the above points you can report an abandoned vehicle to us for investigation. When reporting a vehicle, please tell us the following information:
- the vehicle's exact location
- registration number
- make, model and colour
- how long it has been there
- whether it has been vandalised
If a vehicle is untaxed but has not been abandoned you can report it directly to the DVLA
. For example, if you know that there is a current vehicle keeper.
Retrieving an abandoned vehicle
If you believe your vehicle has been removed by us then please report this to us or contact us using the details at the top right of this page. We will advise you of the costs involved and how to arrange a release note.
