Dorset Growth Deal

Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership Logo

Bids for major transport schemes are made through the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (DLEP).

Since 2014 Local Enterprise Partnerships were tasked with developing Strategic Economic Plans to promote long term economic growth. Dorset's plan 'Transforming Dorset’, was submitted to Government in March 2014 and was used in negotiations to secure funding from the Dorset Growth Deal.

Funding is provided to help drive local economic growth, improve housing and create more highly skilled jobs. One area with particular focus in Dorset is improving access to the Port of Poole, as one of the county’s key assets, and its surrounding regeneration area (see graphics to the right). The other main strand is improving access to Bournemouth Airport which started with works to the A338 (September 2015 - June 2016).

Poole Council has successfully secured over £20 million from the DLEP to deliver transport improvements along the town's prime transport corridor from 2016-2021.

The Growth Deal programme for the Port of Poole includes:

Gravel Hill Improvements

The Gravel Hill work took four months from July to November 2016 and included improvements to: Queen Anne Drive Junction - Gravel Hill Embankment - Dunyeats Road Junction (Gravel Hill) - Darby's Corner

Poole Bridge Approach Spans

Work to Poole Bridge Approach Spans started in September 2016.  It is anticipated it will re-open later this year, 2017.

Townside Access

We have secured £11.7 million from DLEP through the Dorset Growth Deal to improve access to the port, town centre and to help ‘unlock’ the development sites for regeneration. Around this we have an opportunity to deliver attractive public spaces. As the regeneration sites on the town side of Backwater Channel get developed and more people move into the area, the green spaces and public areas will play an even more important role in the growing community. Tell us how you think these spaces can be enhanced to help promote people's well-being.
