What we can do

We can remove hypodermic needles or syringes from all council owned land.

What we don’t do

Remove needles or syringes from domestic properties.

How you can help

If you find syringes on council owned land call 01202 261700 giving the exact location.

If you find a syringe

Needles, syringes and other drug related items are being increasingly discarded in the environment. There are a number of hazards associated with handling these items and if discovered you should email us to have them safely removed and disposed of.

We will remove hypodermic needles or syringes from all council owned land.

We do not remove needles or syringes from domestic properties generated by householder(s) medial conditions, such as diabetes. Alternative arrangement should be made through the local healthcare provider.

We advise members of the public NOT to pick up syringes, unless it poses an immediate danger to you or another member of the public. If you decide it is necessary to pick up a syringe, ensure that you wear protective gloves so that you do not come into direct contact with it, and place the syringe, needle first into a bottle with a lid on.

Please contact Environmental Services as quickly as possible giving the exact location of the item(s).

Syringes found on educational premises

Please note that any needles or syringes etc. found on educational premises (such as schools and nurseries) during working hours should be reported immediately to the premises directly, where staff on site are trained to deal with such items.
