Road Works

Road works are essential for maintaining the highway and to allow utility companies to lay, repair and maintain their equipment.  The majority of road works can be carried out with minimal disruption to traffic however at times it will be unavoidable to impact the way traffic flows on the highway. If any major works are in progress they are detailed at the foot of this page.

Details of current road works are shown on an interactive map, by changing the date filter it is also possible to see all works planned for the next 2 weeks and the next 12 months. By clicking on the icons information is available regarding details of the work including dates and who is responsible. For more information regarding individual works please contact the named organisation, for example; SGN, BT, Wessex Water.

TEMPORARY 30MPH SPEED RESTRICTION ON GRAVEL HILL/ARROWSMITH ROAD/DUNYEATS ROAD
This will take affect from MONDAY 23 MAY 2016 until MONDAY 30 JANUARY 2017. 

Gravel Hill

From its junction with Blackwater Drive to 250 metres south of Dunyeats Roundabout

Arrowsmith Road

From its junction with Gravel Hill for a distance of 750 metres in a north-easterly direction

Dunyeats Road

From its junction with Dunyeats Roundabout for a distance of 20 metres in a westerly direction


The temporary restrictions are required in order to reduce vehicle speeds to create a safer working environment while works to Gravel Hill are undertaken. If you have any queries please contact Mr T Holder, Tel. No. 01202 262182.  
GRAVEL HILL between its junctions with Arrowsmith Road and Queen Anne Drive. From 10pm on Sunday 24 July 2016 until Sunday 18 December 2016. The closure is required for junction improvements, footway/cycleway widening and embankment stability. If you have any queries please contact Mrs B Barker-Stock on Tel. No. 01202 262129. 
 
EMERGENCY CLOSURE OF FOOTHPATH NO. 97 (from Gravel Hill to Merriefield Avenue). Monday 15 August until Sunday 18 December 2016. This closure is required for Health and Safety while the works are undertaken on Gravel Hill. If you have any queries please contact Transportation Services, Tel. No. 01202 262000.  
 SEPTEMBER 2016  
 POOLE LIFTING BRIDGE AND BRIDGE APPROACH (to the roundabout at the junction with New Quay Road and Blandford Road.  Access for businesses will be maintained. Monday 12 September 2016 until Friday 9 June 2017. The closure is required for the demolition and replacement of the existing bridge approach spans, including the abutments at the Poole and Hamworthy ends of the bridge. SELDOWN LANE (part) from its junction with Kingland Road - Sunday 25 September 2016 from 8am (one day only). The closure is required for health and safety while a crane lift is undertaken to the Lighthouse. If you have any queries please contact Dorset Crane Hire Ltd, Tel. No. 01202 623399.  
CHURCH STREET from its junction with Thames Street.  Monday 19 September 2016 from 8am (one day only). The closure is required for a repair to a sewer. If you have any queries please contact Wessex Water, Tel No 0345 600 4 600. 
OCTOBER 2016

 

SERPENTINE ROAD from its junction with Wimborne Road - Saturday 8 October 2016 between 8am and 6pm. The closure is required for health and safety while a crane lift is undertaken to Barclays House. SELDOWN LANE from its junction with Mount Pleasant Road Sunday 9 October 2016 between 8am and 6pm If weather conditions do not permit the lift to take place then the alternative date will be Sunday 16 October 2016 again from 8am and 6pm.The closure is required for health and safety while a crane lift is undertaken to Merck House If you have any queries please contact Terranova Crane Ltd, Tel. POOLE ROAD west of its junction with Eagle Road - Thursday 13 October 2016 between 6am and 8pm. Temporary revocation of the Bus, Taxi and Cycle Lane Order. The temporary suspension is required to minimise disruption to vehicles while works are undertaken on the southern side of the road between the Superstore and County Gates.
