Blandford Road resurfacing scheme

In August 2017 the Department for Transport awarded the Borough of Poole approximately £2.9M Challenge Fund for highways structural maintenance schemes to be carried out to some of our major roads. A key requirement was for this money to be spent by the end of March 2018.

The B3068 Blandford Road was identified along with a number of locations where a structural maintenance scheme was required. The value of this scheme is roughly equivalent to that normally available for the entire annual of budget of the Highways Structural Maintenance Programme and we have the opportunity to carry out far more work that we otherwise would be able to do.

Description of the work

The scheme will involve resurfacing the full length of the B3068 Blanford Road from the borough boundary near Sandy Lane to the mini-roundabout at Bridge Approach. The work will be done in two phases carried out either side of Christmas.

Phase One - Inglesham Way to Rigler Road junction

Preparation work including repairs to footways and kerbs began on Monday 30th October. The resurfacing operation will consist of;

One-way SOUTHBOUND road closure (towards Port/Town) except for buses on Blandford Road from Inglesham Way to Beccles Close between Monday 13th and Friday 24th November.

Closure to be established at 7am daily and to be removed by evening peak daily i.e. 2 way flow maintained overnight and at weekends.

Full closure of Blandford Road in BOTH DIRECTIONS on Sunday 19th November between Beccles Close and Rigler Road (timed to avoid clash with Rememberance Sunday and the operation of the nearby schools).

Side road access generally available throughout however turning movements will be temporarily restricted to comply with the southbound road closure. There are likely to be long delays accessing Blandford Road especially on days where work is being carried out immediately adjacent.

Southbound closure being carried out in a rolling phased manner starting at Inglesham Way and heading towards the Port. The extent of the closure area will gradually reduce as work progresses. Please refer to attached Resurfacing Phase Plan REV B attached on right of your screen for more details in particular those relating to changes to some of the dates.

Phase Two - Inglesham Way to boundary and Rigler Road to Port

Includes carriageway resurfacing and improvement works to footway under railway bridges.

Preparation works for surfacing in New Year to be undertaken between Rigler Road and Port using off peak (9.30am to 4.30pm) 'Stop & Go' arrangement from Monday 4th December - this will be AFTER Poole Bridge has re-opened.

Rigler Road to Port scheduled to be resurfaced on Sundays 7th and 14th January using a full road closure. More details to be provided shortly

Remainder of road from Inglesham Way to boundary to be resurfaced later in January 2018. Details to be announced later.
