Timetable enquiries

For enquiries about the times of buses please use the contact number for the bus companies listed further down this page, or contact Traveline.

If you are out for the day why not buy a Getting About Card which is valid across Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch on the services of all of the main bus operators. There are no time restrictions and the tickets are available from the driver of the first bus you board, so you can hop on and off all day.

Morebus operate the majority of bus services in Poole with a comprehensive network. They also run longer distance routes to destinations such as Wimborne, Blandford and Swanage.

Other bus services are operated by companies such as Yellow Buses and First. First operate the award winning Jurassic CoastLine X54 service which provides Poole with direct buses to Weymouth, with connections to Bridport, Lyme Regis, Seaton, and Axminster.

Where services are not provided on a commercial basis, we are able to work in partnership with the bus operators by providing subsidised routes. Approximately 30 different routes are subsidised in this way and they are a range of daytime, evening and Sunday services.

Route One - linking Poole town centre and the hospital with the Old Town and the Quay

Subsidised bus services

The majority of bus routes in Poole are operated without the need for subsidy. However, services with fewer passengers such as those that operate at the weekend, during the evenings or away from main routes, require financial support from us to be viable. Last year our net expenditure subsidising local bus services was £598,000.

Borough of Poole is currently facing a very challenging financial situation. Rising costs, increased demand and cuts in government funding means the council has to save around £6.1 million by April 2019 to balance its budget. As part of our efforts to save money, we are again reviewing the council’s budget for subsidising bus services.

A savings target of £300,000 was set for the three year period 2016/17 - 2018/19 from the council's budget for bus services. Bus subsidy reductions and changes have already taken place however, a target saving of £70,400 remains for the final year 2018/19. A  consultation ran from 18 September to 29 October 2017.  Any final changes will be implemented in May 2018.

Local authority bus subsidy ring-fenced (revenue) grant

In 2016/17 the Borough of Poole was awarded a grant of £177,553 by the Department for Transport. The grant was devolved Bus Service Operators Grant and was ring-fenced to provide financial support for non-commercial subsidised local bus services and for running community transport services in house.

£166,704 was spent supporting local bus services operating in the evenings, weekends, off-peak and to schools. £10,849 was spent supporting the Poole Dial-a-Bus Service.

Find out more about the grant on GOV.UK.
