How Planning Works
A wide range of planning applications are received, ranging from small domestic conservatories to large commercial, retail and housing development. The vast majority of these applications are delegated to the Head of Planning Design and Control Services for decision. A small percentage of strategic applications and those considered to be more contentious are dealt with by the Council's Planning Committee, which meets once a month.
There is a public reception area on the second floor of the Civic Centre which welcomes around 15,000 personal callers every year. Visitors include developers, architects and residents seeking planning advice and to view plans and applications which may affect them.
PD&CS also holds around 35,000 historical planning records, which are in the process of being scanned onto the planning web site, to enable residents and other interested parties to access records from their home PC.
