Interim Planning Framework On Highways Contributions Agreed

31st October 2007

Interim Planning Framework on highways contributions agreed.

The Council approved this Interim Planning Framework (IPF) at it's meeting on 30th October 2007.

The effect of the new IPF is to require a contribution to be made from all applications where there is a net increase in the number of dwellings (houses/flats) on a site. That money will be earmarked for schemes to reduce congestion, improve air quality and road safety as well as promote the use of more sustainable forms of transport.

In earlier years there was a large amount of new housing taking place in the form of housing estates such as Canford Heath and Creekmoor. These developments provided their own infrastructure to take account of new traffic flows. Now the majority of new housing development is taking place on smaller sites within the urban area and the cumulative effect of this development needs to be managed. The new contributions policy will provide the resources to bring about positive changes to deal with the steady incremental growth that would otherwise potentially affect highways and public transport around the Borough.
