The Dorset Heaths are a vital part of the natural environment of south east Dorset contributing to the area’s special qualities. The Borough of Poole, Bournemouth Borough, Christchurch Borough, East Dorset and Purbeck District Councils have agreed to abandon work on the joint DPD now that all authorities have in place adopted Core Strategies (Local Plans) that have a policy framework for the protection of international sites. Detailed implementation relating to internationally protected heathland can be found in the Dorset Heathlands Planning Framework SPD.
