Poole Libraries announce Summer Reading Challenge 2017

Poole Libraries are pleased to announce this year’s Summer Reading Challenge – Animal Agents.

A crack detective agency manned by a team of clever animals, furry, scaly and slippery, the Animal Agents are out to find out the source of the peculiar happenings within Poole’s Libraries, and they need the help of local young readers.

The Summer Reading Challenge, which is organised by The Reading Agency, is an annual event that takes place across the country, encouraging young people to join their local library and enjoy reading.

Starting from 15 July 2017, children aged 0-11 can sign up at their local Poole library, and take on the Animal Agency Summer Reading Challenge to read six books, of their choice, over the summer holidays.

At the start of the challenge, children will receive an exclusive Animal Agency pack, to fill in throughout. With each completed book that is returned to the library they will also receive a host of special (and some smelly) stickers illustrated by the UK’s best selling children’s illustrator, Tony Ross.

Collecting all of the stickers will help the Animal Agents find out what has been going on in the libraries, and get to the bottom of the mystery! As well as helping to solve the puzzle, all children who complete the challenge will receive a medal and certificate, and will be in with the chance of winning to cool spy-themed prizes.

The Poole Schools award is also on offer to the school with the highest number of pupils taking part.

Alongside this fantastic challenge, an array of activities and events will be happening at all Poole libraries throughout the summer. These include Stop Motion Animation workshops with artist Lucy Jackson, Animal Agents coding events, and a chance to get up close and person with some real life Animal Agents in the form of creepy crawlies, courtesy of Zoolab, as well as many more events.

Councillor Mohan Iyengar, Cabinet Member responsible for libraries, says “The Summer Reading Challenge helps all parents to keep young minds busy during the term-break. It’s always popular and we’re delighted to bring it back this year with Animal Agents. Do go along to your local library and sign-up”
