Cabinet Members Recommend New Housing Project

Borough of Poole's Cabinet have shown support for a new housing project to be built on the former Gravel Hill police station site.

Cabinet members unanimously recommended to Full Council approval of a total budget of £11.83m to deliver 62 new flats on the Canford Heath Road site. This joint development between Borough of Poole and Poole Housing Partnership is made up of 56 affordable homes and six specialist homes.

Planning permission for the site was approved by the Council's Planning Committee in April and Cabinet are now recommending that a conditional letter is issued to the Council's preferred bidder for the build contract. Both recommendations will go to Full Council in November.

Cllr Karen Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Services, Borough of Poole, said: "The provision of affordable housing is one of the Council's priorities and this scheme will provide 62 much needed properties.

"Having secured planning permission I hope that Members will fully support this excellent development. This scheme will be particularly significant for those who have a disability or multiple disabilities for whom securing affordable and appropriate accommodation to meet their needs is a challenge."

Subject to receiving approval from councillors, it is anticipated that work will start on site in March 2017 with the homes being completed in September 2018.
