Free parking for Christmas shoppers

Free parking and the return of the popular Park and Ride service will make Christmas shopping even easier in Poole this festive season.

Residents and visitors shopping in Poole can enjoy free parking in all town centre car parks, courtesy of Borough of Poole, on the run-up to Christmas:

* every Sunday between 10am and 6pm from Sunday 27 November until Sunday 18 December 2016.

* Thursday nights between 6pm and 9pm from Thursday 1 December until Thursday 22 December.

People shopping in Broadstone, Ashley Road, Penn Hill, Ashley Cross and Canford Cliffs can also benefit from free parking in district car parks from noon until 6pm on the three Saturdays before Christmas - 3, 10 and 17 December.

Alternatively, for those who want to beat the rush and miss the queues, the council's Park and Ride service will once again be running from Creekmoor.

Yellow Buses will be providing super low floor buses making it even easier for wheelchair users and parents with buggies to get onboard.

The service will leave the Creekmoor Park and Ride site every 15 minutes from 8am until 6pm on 3, 10, 17 and 24 December.

As part of a special promotion to support the Small Business Saturday initiative, Borough of Poole's Economic Development Team have funded the Park and Ride service on 3 December to encourages all shoppers to buy locally especially during the lead up to Christmas.

This year the service will also be available on Monday 26, Tuesday 27, Saturday 31 December 2016 as well as Monday 2 January 2017 thanks to additional funding from the Dolphin Shopping Centre. This will provide a perfect opportunity to grab a bargain or two in the January sales.

The short 10 minute trip to town costs just £1.50 for an adult return, and accompanied children can travel for just 50 pence return. Holders of an English National bus pass can use the service free of charge.

The service drops passengers within easy reach of the shops at the entrance to Falkland Square, where they can then board the bus back to Creekmoor every 15 minutes from 8.15am until 6.15pm.

Councillor Drew Mellor, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "Despite significant pressures on council budgets we are delighted that we can not only maintain but increase the offer to people who shop in Poole this Christmas. Being one of the busiest times of the year we are sure shoppers and businesses will welcome the additional benefits that this offer provides."

Jeff Clayton, Head of Network Development at Yellow Buses added: “We’re delighted to be working with Borough of Poole Council to deliver the Creekmoor Park & Ride bus service this festive season. We would encourage car users to give our high specification buses a try, both in the run-up to Christmas and for the early sales, as the drop-off and pick-up in town outside the shopping centre couldn’t be easier.”

John Grinnell, centre manager, said: “We’re delighted to be working alongside the Borough of Poole on the new Park and Ride Scheme this festive season. By supporting the service, we hope that shoppers will benefit from the convenient schedule on offer, and it turn, it should help to minimise stress and reduce congestion on the busy roads.”
