Busy shopping centre car park set to reopen following extensive repairs

The top two decks of the Dolphin Shopping Centre’s multi storey car park will reopen tomorrow, Saturday 26 November, after extensive repair works have been completed.

Since July, levels J and H have been closed to shoppers enabling major improvements, costing £2.3 million, to be carried out. This has included re-waterproofing and resurfacing, replacing the main movement joints as well as replacing the lights with new columns and LED lanterns.

Over the last few weeks Concrete Repairs Ltd have been carrying out final preparations including painting the car bay lines, fixing the safety barriers and tidying the working area ahead of the reopening for public use.

John Rice, Engineering Manager, Borough of Poole, said: “This four month project is nearly completed with the works being finished on time and within budget. We are carrying out the finishing touches to the car park before it is fully reopened for public use."

John Grinnell, Dolphin Shopping Centre Manager, said: "We would like to thank customers for their patience while these improvements have been taking place. We are pleased that shoppers will be able to use the full car park in time for the busy shopping period leading up to Christmas."

Further works to this car park will be undertaken next year including installing a new lighting system throughout the car park, repairs to the concrete structure and redecoration.

Cllr Drew Mellor, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: "We have recently refurbished roof top car parks Shoppers One and Two and now that phase one of the works to this multi storey car park is coming to an end, arrangements will be put in place for further extensive repairs and improvement within the car park to bring it up to the standard expected by customers.

“The improvements to this car park are part of the council’s wider plans to regenerate the town centre and improve the retail experience for shoppers and visitors to Poole. The town centre regeneration is a priority of this administration and investing in our assets is a major part of delivering that. I am particularly pleased that this investment is unlocking significant funding from L&G into the Dolphin Shopping Centre and Falklands Square. Things are moving in the town centre and they will continue to at pace so watch this space."
