Poole is Full of Life for Older People’s Day

Poole will be playing host to a range of exciting activities as the town celebrates Older People’s Day on Thursday 1 October.

Held every year, the day is a celebration of the achievements and contributions that older people make to society and the economy. With activities intended to help older residents remain ‘Full of Life’, the day will be marked with a Health and Wellbeing Fair at Poole Central Library from 10am - 1pm.

Full of Life for Older People's Day

Just some of the activities available include indoor curling, circle or American square dancing, live performances from a ukulele band, knitting, adult colouring and massage. Over 20 local organisations including Healthwatch Dorset, Marie Curie, Age Concern Poole, and Livewell Dorset will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information and support to keep residents healthy and active.

The Fair will be officially opened at 10am on Thursday 1 October by Mayor of Poole Cllr Ann Stribley. Cllr Stribley said: “We know our residents are living longer, and the activities at the Health and Wellbeing Fair will show that there is a wealth of interesting new hobbies, as well as help and support, available to everyone in later life. Older people form an integral part of our local community, and we are keen to do all we can to help them lead active, independent and fulfilled lives.”

The day will also see further activities taking place across Poole, including a gentle sports and games afternoon at Poole Housing Partnership’s sheltered housing scheme on Lake Avenue in Hamworthy, and an Open Day at Poole Day Centre with arts and craft activities, music, quizzes and of course plenty of tea and cake. More information on these activities as well as others planned throughout the week can be found here
