Spooky Family Fun this half-term at Poole Museum

Poole Museum will be home to all things spooky with a series of Halloween themed activities this October half-term.

The fun begins with a free family trail across the museum’s gallery floors, available from Saturday 24 October until Sunday 1 November during opening hours. Make sure you have your wits about you to follow the clues and discover the ‘awesome owls’ roosting in the display cases.

On Wednesday 28 October, the ghoulish fun continues in the medieval surroundings of Scaplen’s Court. Open to the public from 11am – 3pm, the atmospheric building will host a variety of free spine chilling craft activities for children. There will also be a chance to meet our resident story-telling witch (enter if you dare!)

On Friday 30 October, the museum will be opening its doors late, from 5pm – 9pm, as part of the national Museums at Night programme. The free Awesome Owls trail will be on offer and fancy dress is strongly encouraged. Also on offer, for those who are brave enough, is the chance to book a place on a guided ghost walk around Poole Old Town at 6pm.

Starting at the museum, the Victorian character of Granny Cousins will tell you exciting tales about the locals who have lived, worked and haunted this ancient fishing port. Be sure to book your place in advance as spaces are limited. For more details of events, times and booking information visit the ‘What’s On’ section of Poole Museum’s website: www.poolemuseum.com

Councillor Xena Dion, Portfolio Holder for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure, said: “It’s great to be able to offer a wide selection of events and activities for families to enjoy this half-term. For those who know the museum well it’s an excellent chance to explore our collections in the spirit of Halloween fun. And for those who have never been it’s a real opportunity to get children engaged and see how exciting museums can be.”
