Get involved with Poole Park Life this half term

Visitors to Poole Park will have more opportunities to get involved with Poole Park Life this October half term.

Throughout Thursday 29 October there will be a range of activities for the whole family to enjoy as part of the bid for Poole Park Heritage Lottery Funding.

From 10am to 12 noon park users will be able to participate in the Get Hands On! event. They will be able to help manage the parkland by cutting back overgrown bamboo around the freshwater lake and also plant some bulbs at the Copse Close end of the park ready for next Spring.

A guided Heritage Walk will then take place at 1pm. Meeting at the pavilion, the one hour walk will take you back to Victorian times to see how our ancestors relaxed and used the park for entertainment.

At 2.30pm children and adults can take part in the Poole Park Conker Championship! Conker competitors should gather at the cricket pavilion ready to test their wits and skill.

A host of other activities taking place throughout the day including discovering what wildlife inhabits the park and a spooky Halloween trail to find some of the oldest features in the park. In addition help will be needed to count the number of park users and gain a better understanding of how people use this historic park.

Martin Whitchurch, Project Manager, Borough of Poole said: "We were keen to link these half term activities with the 125 year heritage of Poole Park. So hopefully there will be something for everyone from the heritage walk to a game of conkers.

"Conkers have been a favourite childhood pastime throughout the generations so we would love to see any pictures of games taking place in Poole Park. Just bring them along to the pavilion and share your memories with us."

Councillor John Rampton, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole, said: "These free Poole Park Life events not only provide great family entertainment, but the feedback from members of the public will help shape our bid to secure £2.8 million for Poole Park from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It is vital that we take advantage of this opportunity to secure valuable funds to preserve and enhance Poole's most popular and historic open space."
