Poole car parks awarded safety accreditation

Borough of Poole is pleased to announce that 21 car parks in Poole have retained the national Park Mark Safer Parking accreditation, providing peace of mind when deciding where to park.

The Safer Parking Scheme is run by The British Parking Association and is the national standard for UK car parks. Assessed by the Police, the scheme recognises car parks that have low crime rates and measures in place to ensure the safety of vehicles and passengers.

Councillor Ian Potter, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Transportation, Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted that 21 of our car parks have been awarded the Park Mark accreditation. We are very committed to maintaining the high standards of our car parks and we are pleased that these awards reflect this commitment.”

Julian McLaughlin, Head of Transportation Services, Borough of Poole, said: “In partnership with Legal & General, we recently made significant investment in Shoppers 2 car park and during the summer we will be investing over £1 million in Shoppers 1 car park. This will create a better experience for shoppers and an improved first impression for visitors arriving in our town centre.”

With over 5,000 parking spaces to choose from in Poole, residents and visitors can park confidently knowing they are parking in a safe place.

John Green, Crime Prevention and Design Advisor, Dorset Police, said: "Poole has continually invested money and effort into ensuring that the car parks they operate reach the demands of the Police Assessed Park Mark accreditation. This is evidenced by the fact that over recent years crime has been almost non-existent in any of the 21 car parks they operate.”

Chas Cannon, Senior Area Manager, British Parking Association, said: ”I am pleased that Borough of Poole has retained the Park Mark award for 21 of its car parks. This shows commitment by the council to provide safe parking for both residents and visitors to the Poole area. Car Parks are often the first and last place that visitors see when visiting a town and providing Police Accredited facilities will reassure visitors that their vehicles will be safe.”

Borough of Poole joined the Safer Parking Scheme in 2005. Since 2010, 21 car parks in Poole have been assessed against the criteria and have been awarded the Park Mark accreditation each year.

To ensure high standards are maintained, car parks are assessed annually and if they meet the rigorous criteria, a Park Mark is awarded for an additional 12 months. A recognised Park Mark award is visible by a bright blue box and a big white tick.
