Early education funding available for eligible children

In April 2015, the government introduced the ‘Early Years Pupil Premium’ which is additional funding to support the early education of eligible 3 and 4 year olds.

A child’s early education provision; pre-school, nursery or childminder could receive up to £300 a year to support their individual learning if they are eligible.

The eligibility criteria includes if the family is in receipt of low income related benefits, or they care for looked after children through foster, adoption or residency orders, and the 3 or 4 year old child is receiving free early education hours at a nursery, pre-school or childminding setting.

Vicky Wales, Head of Children Young People and Learning, Borough of Poole, said: “Our early years providers are very positive about using this additional funding to support individual children to make a positive start to their learning."

"We would encourage any parent in Poole who meets the criteria to complete an application form and discuss their child’s needs with their provider."

To apply, an application needs to be completed and given to the nursery, pre-school or childminder with proof of eligibility. Forms and additional information leaflets are available at:
