Join a Make Friends with a Book group in National Storytelling Week, which runs from 31 January – 7 February. These weekly shared reading groups  no need to read anything in between meetings, just come along and enjoy the story.  Have a coffee and chat about what you have read together. There’s a group in every library – visit the libraries pages to find the one that suits you best.

Poole Central and Rossmore libraries will be transformed on Thursday 5 February for magical Harry Potter Book Night parties from 4pm. Wizards, witches and Muggles alike are welcome to come along in fancy dress and enjoy some butterbeer refreshments and themed games and crafts.

National Libraries Day takes place on Saturday 7 February, with activities taking place across all Poole libraries. It’s a day to celebrate why you love your library – come along and tell us what your local library means to you, and have your photo taken with your message. Visitors will be treated to coffee and cake, children’s story time and a library quiz, as well as other events – check out what activities are running at your local library.

Romance will be in the air as children have the chance to create their own Valentine’s cards, hearts and bookmarks. Bring the little ones along to Hamworthy Library from 3pm – 4pm on Thursday 12 February, or Oakdale Library from 10.30am – 11.30am and Poole Central Library from 11am – 12pm on Saturday 14 February for some crafty fun.

Nature-lovers can find out more about the diverse natural habitats on our doorstep with The Great Heath Project exhibition, which runs at Canford Heath Library from 19 February until 6 March.

And if you’re looking to keep the children busy this half term, from Thursday 19 February we will be celebrating Chinese New Year in all our libraries, with visiting youngsters able to join in with making lanterns, dragons and other crafts.
