Same Love Exhibition Launch

The launch of the Same Love exhibition in Poole will take place on Thursday 6 February at 6pm in Poole Central Library, to mark Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month.

Same Love is a community based photography project which champions equal marriage by showing same sex relationships for what they are - caring relationships between two people. The exhibition captures Poole and Bournemouth couples relaxed and happy in their own homes.

Will Corder, Arts University student who instigated and created the exhibition said: "Given that same sex couples will be able to marry in England and Wales from 29 March of this year, its very timely that the exhibition shares a message that love is love, whether it’s gay, straight or otherwise - it’s the same love."

Councillor Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, Borough of Poole, said: "It’s great to see Poole Libraries using their spaces to profile works by talented local artists to spread such a positive message about inclusion in our town. We hope lots of people using Poole Central Library throughout the month will go away with a feeling of warmth having looked at such a high quality portraits of local people being themselves."

John Murphy and Tim Randall, a Poole couple who have been together since the 1970s and are involved with the project, said: "The longevity of same sex relationships should not just be seen as something amazing and remarkable when they are much more common than many people realise. We know of a vast number of couples who have been together for many years across the Bournemouth and Poole conurbation. This project will do much to demonstrate how solid and loving such relationships can be and we are delighted to support it."

Partly inspired by Same Love, Bournemouth and Poole College students will also be launching their ‘Digital Portraits of Poole People’ exhibition on Monday 10 February, 6-8pm in the Dolphin Centre. There will be the opportunity to preview a few of the positive images of Poole people, particularly those reflecting the diverse range of people in our town that Borough of Poole will be using for their communications and marketing.

The Same Love exhibition will be displayed throughout February in Poole Central Library for LGBT History Month. Find out more on the Same Love website
